you know what, after seeing all the wonderful and creative work that most of you do. I'm very surprised that as much work and money that goes into making these movies they half ass the covers so much. Wonderful job everyone just wanted to give props(there are too many of you to just through out the best).

just think how much more money they could really make though with a well thought out cover of a movie. sometimes just that draws in sales from people who may not have even seen the movie. which is actually happening a lot more with the theater ticket prices going up and its attendances going down.

some movies are promoted to look more appealing to the average monkey and the promo art and dvd covers tend to reflect that, Eternal sunhine of a spotless mind is a prime example of this. when it comes to a cover artist like us making a cover, i think some will try hard to represent the film as it is rather than try and numb it down.

you all realize that the studios have to honor contracts with actors in terms of names, placement, size to title ratio, etc, in addition to their legal depts with regards to logos/banners/etc.
cover artists for studios are generating exactly what their studio bosses want/need.

Nobody said anything about the studio cover artists. The blame has been rightfully placed with the studios themselves. You don't have to limit criticism of film promotion to just DVD covers. Ever since Scream was a big "success," it seems that every movie poster *has* to have the actors' faces looking out at you. It's an absolutely uncreative approach to marketing, but it's safe and I'm sure the actors aren't complaining.
Motion pictures are an industry where the bottom line is to make money. The studios don't want to take risks by being original and creative. In Hollywood, nobody cares about being the first, but they will kill themselves to be #2 in the market.
