For me Platoon is the best war movie followed by Saving Private Ryan and Das Bot.

For me, Full Metal Jacket is the best 1/2 war movie ever. Once they get out of boot camp, the movie goes downhill for me.

For me, it's The Great Escape or The Dirty Dozen.

For me, hands down Best War Movie ever made: The Longest Day...

Still today it could stand up action/effect wise with more modern war movies...the cast is vast and superb...however, what makes the film is the "individual" wartime stories told from both sides.

Aside from that....my next best would be: Patton, Tora Tora Tora, Plattoon, Hamburger Hill, Glory...and while it's not a movie. the mini-series "Band of Brothers" I think is one of the best War related stories ever filmed...
