right after I posted I go this e-mail:

We're Going Blu-ray

Dear George,

You're receiving this email because you have asked to receive high-definition movies in the HD DVD format. As you may have heard, most of the major movie studios have recently decided to release their high-definition movies exclusively in the Blu-ray format. In order to provide the best selection of high-definition titles for our members, we have decided to go exclusively with Blu-ray as well.

While we will continue to make our current selection of HD DVD titles available to you for the next several months, we will not be adding additional HD DVD titles or reordering replacements.

Toward the end of February, HD DVDs in your Saved Queue will automatically be changed to standard definition DVDs. Then toward the end of this year, all HD DVDs in your Queue will be changed to standard definition DVDs. Don't worry, we will contact you before this happens.

You can click here to change your format preferences.

We're sorry for any inconvenience. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please call us at 1 (88 638-3549.

this is a big plus for the consumer, i would say buy mid year you should be able to pickup a Blu-ray player for under $200. and the Blu-ray burners will be right around the corner too... if the price doesn't drop by mid year just wait till xmas...

I really like the HD DVD format. It has better features than Blu-ray......looks like I picked a loser on this one.

I actually paid nothing for my player. I buy a lot of my company equipment through best buy business and I get all of the reward zone points. I usually end up getting about $75 to $100 a month in coupons. It's a nice perk. I have a PS3 too, so I've got both formats covered. I will keep the player for now because I can still watch Transformers, The Matrix Trilogy, The Mummy, and The Thing on HD DVD.

EDIT** RickT - to answer your question, I believe my player cost around $250.00. It's the Toshiba HD-A30
