Tron Legacy

So it looks like Disney is producing a sequel to Tron. According to IMDB, it stars Bruce Boxleitner and Jeff Bridges, who reprise their roles as Alan Bradley and Kevin Flynn, respectively. The teaser trailer features a multi-plane light-cycle race.

So is it going to be any good? My main reaction is, "Huh. A Tron sequel." I'm not sure how they're going to pull of the concept this time. It worked out in 1982 in part because most lay persons were not really familiar with computers. You could get away with lines like "Somewhere in one of those memories is the evidence." Today everyone knows better than to refer to computer memory in the plural. Also, having a computer "program" named Rom sounded pretty cool and techy in 1982. And there was an ominous finality when the Master Control Program boomed in his low-tone digital voice, "End of line."

I mean really, this effort has an uphill battle. It's almost as bad as if someone released a movie in 2009 that was based on a science fiction TV show from the 60s.

I dunno. The Knight Rider and Battlestar Galactica remakes succeeded in making modern-day stuff beleivable. Knight Rider even showed a scene of brute-force password-dictionary hacking to get the job done and ahd it takea realistic amount of time instead of that Hollywood-hacking with prettyg rpahics most shows do.

I think a modern-day Tron could be handled nicely. As ther are STILL people unfamiliar with computers.
