Shooter

SHOOTER (2007)
Saw this yesterday and found it a decent enough time killer with plenty of action and half the cast ending up with their heads (or limbs) blown apart. I've read some gripes online where people are saying it's straight-to-DVD level. I don't think that's an entirely fair assessment; it's a little better-made and better-acted than, say, a Romania-shot Steven Seagal movie (I liked Koteas going over the top; what was that dancing all about?). At one point, Wahlberg is forced to say "I'm going to burn their playhouse down" with a straight face. Pretty silly, but not any more silly than other action hero quips of the past. I don't think it tries to be anything more than two solid hours of entertainment, and for $7.00, I enjoyed it. Long story short, I won't be buying the DVD, but if I'm bored and channel-surfing some night a few years from now, I'd watch it again. You could do a lot worse than SHOOTER.
Does anyone have an explanation for the way Danny Glover is talking in this? There's a definite lisp that he never had before. When he first spoke, I thought the audio in the theater was muffled, but then Wahlberg sounded fine in the same scene and I wondered if Glover had had a stroke or something at some point and his speech was affected. When he got his first close-up, I noticed he had a clear mouth-guard over his bottom teeth; something you'd wear if you grind your teeth. To those who've read Hunter's novel--was this a plot point that ended up on the cutting room floor? And if Glover has a problem grinding his teeth, can't he at least take it out for the scene? I mean no offense to teeth grinders (I was one until I had my wisdom teeth out), but it was pretty distracting at times. There's a few instances where you can't make out what he's saying.

I too saw the clear plate on his lower teeth, and found it annoying...

I liked this movie right up to

the second to last scene on the mountain top, where the "gunney" gives up, and also the chick shoots elias koteas (would she not be charged? even if she was raped offscreen?)

and the ending was silly, he had the tape, yet he destroys it, and then gets out of jail, and then kills them all??

he could have easily shot eveyone from his point on the mountain, and subbmitted the tape as evidence, and all would be cleared up...

oh well i did enjoy it mostly though
