| Futureworld FUTUREWORLD (1976)
I had never seen this follow-up to WESTWORLD (1973) so I taped it off of cable a while ago. Amazingly, it was shown letter boxed (possible MGM DVD in the future?). Three years after the robot revolt at Westworld, the Delos Corp. is opening Futureworld and hoping to erase the bad publicity from the previous event. To do so they invite along two reporters (Peter Fonda and Blythe Danner) who the company hopes will do rave reviews about foreign dignitaries enjoying the amusement park. In fact, the higher ups at Delos knows they will write rave reviews because scientist John P. Ryan has created duplicates of Fonda and Danner to send back into the real world with the intent of spreading the good word about Delos in order to get every major political player there so they can replace them too. This is a surprisingly good follow-up to the original. Peter Fonda, coming off the chase/horror film RACE WITH THE DEVIL (1975), is great as the suspicious reporter. The last half hour is fun as Danner and Fonda are chased by their respective doubles. The film also benefits from some great location work, having shot at a real space center in Houston. Yul Brynner returns as the gunslinger but only for a 5 minute cameo in a dream sequence. |

| I, too, was a bit weirded out at a young age by the cover of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND with Yul on it, his cyborg insides hanging out. I never saw the film as a kid, though. |

| Here in Detroit I grew up with Sir Graves Ghastly (who died recently), Count Scary, and later, The Ghoul. Through fuzzy TV reception I also saw The Big Chuck And Little John Show, from Ohio. Ahh, those were the days... |
