FEED (2005)
This Australian haircut of SE7EN and SILENCE OF THE LAMBS substitutes the serial "feeder" for the serial killer -- said feeder being one gorges another person past gross obesity to the next level... which I guess you might call überbesity. Producer (and costar) Jack Thompson's bullnecked son Patrick plays a Sydney cop and tortured Catholic who (when he's not having it off with his bisexual girlfriend and weeping in public toilets) specializes in nailing pedophiles and other sex offenders haunting the Internet. (In the film's opening, he busts in on a German feeding a man his own genitalia.) Happening upon a website devoted to "feeders," he heads off to Ohio to break the chain of fatty dependence.
Directed by Brett (THE LAWNMOWER MAN) Leonard but looking very much like a film student's graduate project, FEED is never as grotesque or weird as it wants to be and tedium sets in early on. Try as you may, you just can't top a guy willingly eating his own penis ("I want to be eaten, I want to be eaten!") and FEED subjects the viewer to the BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ of drawn-out climaxes. The fat suit worn by Gabby Millgate (MURIEL'S WEDDING) is worth seeing but FEED only offers, ahem, empty calories and a bad aftertaste.
