i saw this trailer a couple of months ago, and I think it might be a hit, hell anything that uses van halens "panama' as background music , will get me into the theatre

**edit, first time I'Ve seen the red version of the trailer, it takes out the best jokes from the green trailer (which i've seen a few times at the theatre), which is too bad, but hey just watch the green trailer to see what I mean.

Saw it this weekend, I liked it a lot (and so did the packed theatre of teenage girls) and yes the movie was good too.

not a huge opening though, only 32 million...

Superbad

SUPERBAD (2007)
Kinda ironic that I paid to see this, huh? I recently convinced myself that I didn't really get today's comedies (I'm from the old school Mel Brooks/Monty Python/AIRPLANE! ethic). Well, truth be told: this year I paid to see RENO 911, KNOCKED UP, THE SIMPSONS MOVIE, this, and I'll probably check out BALLS OF FURY, too.
Hey, don't ask me. Though it strikes me some great lesson from life could be drawn from this.
It's okay. Like KNOCKED UP was okay. Like KNOCKED UP, though, I think it's been overrated in some quarters; not only is it not the definitive comedy of this decade, it's not even the funniest movie I've seen this year (Which is easily THE SIMPSONS MOVIE). It has two of KNOCKED UP's problems: it's too long and not nearly as crude as it pretends to be. Well, maybe the second one isn't a problem for you , just for me; it seems like it was rated R mostly for language, none of which you haven't heard before, some of which is funny, some of which you'll tune right out.
It also has a certain degree of winsomeness about it that isn't exactly "bad", but isn't really my cup of tea. Underneath it all it's a very sentimentalized, sweet portrait of teenage life, which I just have problems buying; my experience of adolescent years being more of the Hobbesian variety (war of all against all and the like). One of the critics on a radio show in Detroit said something to the effect that this was a realistic picture of teenage life. Nah, I suspect it's more a middle-aged guy's romanticized account of how he likes to remember his teenage years; quite a different thing.
But there is good stuff to be found here. Michael Cera and Jonah Hill are appealing leads. The YouTuber playing "McLovin" is sui generis, and his initiation into many adult tribal rites over the course of the evening is one of the more interesting aspects of the film. Hill's obsessive childhood drawings are hilarious (the credited artist should expect big sales). And I give Rogen (who is in his mid-20s) bravery points for his co-screenplay; I take it he is the model for Seth in the film, whose sexuality is unformed yet highly ambiguous, despite all his foul-mouthed girl-chasing bravado. That's bound to leave audiences wondering: Is KNOCKED UP a "beard" movie? Or is he simply acknowledging a basic fact of sexual experimentation and development that people are uncomfortable with and/or rarely see portrayed?
Anyway, I perked up for all this stuff, and found the rest pretty disposable, like the cop scenes in LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT.
If you're looking for simpler laughs, try Frank Oz's farcical DEATH AT A FUNERAL, which has some funny business in its brisk 91 minutes (and a good cast of second-tier British actors to carry you through the rest).

judging by the trailer, I thought this movie would be exactly like its title 'super bad'. I never did go see it, nor do I intend to.
