TORTURE GARDEN (1967)
Dr. Diabolo (Burgess Meredith) hosts the Torture Garden at a local fair. Customers are treated to a variety death machines (guillotine, torture rack, electric chair) performed on dummies before Diabolo offers his "special" attraction to paying customers. Diabolo is able to show them their futures, all of which are bad.
I reviewed the Amicus anthology THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD a few posts ago, and didn't really like it. This, their second anthology after DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS (1965), was quite good and I think I know the answer, Freddie Francis! He just really knows how to direct horror stuff with great camera angles and moody lighting. Robert Bloch is again the scripter and all the stories are good. The final two segments - featuring a killer piano (!) and Jack Palance as a Poe obsessed fan who meets the ultimate collector in Peter Cushing - are the best. Meredith is also quite good as the evil Dr. Diabolo. If you can't guess who he really is by that name, shame on you.
