#1 | | Guest | Splitting DVDs When making backups of the movies you guys own, what programs do you use to split the DVD? By splitting, I mean taking a movie that is large, and splitting it onto 2 DVDs. Do you just decrypt, reauthor into two separate files, and burn? If so, what programs are you guys using? If that is not the way you guys are doing it, how then?
I tried used DVD Xcopy Plat's splitting feature, but it errors out when attempting to read the source DVD the 2nd time (gives me a nice little stack of 1/2 a movie )
Any suggestions would be awesome.
Thanks. | |

| Well, I myself use 'DVD Shrink' to compress the backup so it can fit on one DVD. I am not bothered by the small reduction in quality, it's hardly noticeable. That lil proggie is very quick, easy and best of all is free.
If you must have the same quality, you can use the same program, here is a handy tutorial:

Good luck |

#4 | | Guest | I use "DVD Shrink" for movies that need little comression, "DVD Rebuilder" for movies needing more.
For splitting, look for "IfoEdit" or "DVD Fab"

#6 | | Guest | a friend of mine uses DXC Platinum but says he preferred his old progam, DXC 1.4. He said it was something about the compression with plat. He said he was making a backup of his dbz dvds and it kept only burning the first episode even if he clicked whole disc. with 1.4 he said, though it automatically split to 2 discs, it always backed everything up.
I don't bother to backup movies personally as I'm militant when I lend movies out so i know who has what and i make friends pay if they ruin the disc. also, (knocking on wood right now) i've never broken a disc myself. anyway...to make copies of my own stuff, though rare, i use nero to make a copy. i know nero can't break copy protection for studio releases, but wasn't there a program that you could download to do it? 123-DVD, that program that was in the news recently, also couldn't break copy protection, but there was a link on their site to the freeware/shareware program that could do it.

#8 | | Guest | Ya, i have and have used DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and Nero Ultra. I have IFOedit (on a recommendation from Doom9), but haven't used it yet. Before I got into reauthoring with IFOedit, just wanted to find if anybody had another solution.
Thanks guys | |

#10 | | Guest | Thanks cochu. I actually had JUST found out about DVDFab, and was coming back here to post about it! Good timing
Apparently (according to doom9), DVDFab is pretty much just as good as IFOedit, but 100X easier to use. So I'm going to use this. Doom9 has a "hold my hand and walk me thru it" guide, so it should be foolproof.
Thanks for all of your help everybody!
