| Custom Covers I was just reading some comments on some covers, and was really curious. What do you prefer as a custom cover? A better than retail, but still retail looking, or complete custom looking, like somthing you wouldn't find in a shop?
It's only my opintion, but I really don't like front covers that look like a poster with a DVD logo. This topic has kinda been touched on before, but not quite in the same way. I personaly see the whole idea of custom covers, being to replace the retail looking covers, with something that is different.
But if you had two covers, which were equaly as stunning, but one looked retail, the other didn't, which would you download?? |

| I don't have a system, just whatever one looks better to me (I try to make my own customs when possible), each person has there own variables and such and in the end its just one persons opinion against another.
Let the arguing begin

| Although I have used customs that look anything but retail, I find myself leaning more towards the ones that give the impression of being retail, but of course are so much better. And to be honest, customs that seem to be simply a poster with a few logos thrown in are still better than most of the retail covers out there, IMHO |

| I like covers that look professional, and could be retail, but are better than the retail for that film. That being said, when a complete custom (a la nothing like retail) is done very well, then I like that the most. But I like covers to have all the necessary elements that retail covers have (save for a few exceptions). |

| If it looks good, and it feels good......baby, I cover it. Seriously, they are both great in their own perspective ways. As long as they look well done with some artistic talent, then doesn't really matter........ However, there is nothing better than the totally original, totally artistic, and totally bad ass of a completely custom cover. I will choose personal artistic expression over boring studio institulionalized shit anyday.

| if the cover looks like a retail cover because its a custom work, such as Stalker's The Day After Tomorrow, gsalb's El Mariachi Set, or some of Bunny's stuff, then it is of such quality that I will download and use.
i don't download scans to put on my shelf....so...if the cover looks like a retail, because it is a poster with a dvd logo slapped on it, i pass because there is probably, or shortly will be, something better.
if the cover is a total custom job...then i evaluate it as necessary because some total jobs are awesome (see most of gsalb's stuff) and some are terrible..(see my Mr. 3000 cover)
so to answer your question about 2 equally stunning covers, one retailish (not just a poster cut/paste) and the other really different/custom looking....it would depend on which one evoked happiness in pants more.
i'll give a couple of examples....
bunnydojos butterfly effect (retail) cover vs. gsalbs (cstm)....i'd go with gsalbs.
stalker's shawshank (retail) cover vs. ubl6612 (more cstm)...i'd go with stalker though it is a poster front...its not just a cut and paste.

| Most of what I’ve done with downloading covers is to replace snappers. So it would look like I lean towards the retail look.
But then there’s Ric Easton. And that throws that theory in the crapper.
Personally, I don’t like digipacs and can’t wait to convert them. But I’m also looking for something retailish.
I guess it just depends. |

| I pick the covers that look the best to me. I download covers to movies that I don't have if I really like the cover. Some are probably considered retail looking and some are not. It just has to appeal to me. |

| I don't know, but I like commercial looks (retail) covers with custom art (different images from the original retail), which can be found on most of bunny's covers, in my taste it's just more professional |

| well on this subject i'm more leaning towards a total custom cover but there is a few instances where a retail looking cover is pretty good check sharky000's cover for longest yard and compare that to origional retail it blows the studio retail cover away.As for using posters then i see it as some people have to start somewhere and using hi res posters is a start for most people, even i started that way but i've been leaning towards trying not to use poster and use what i've learnt from many members here and others sites. My xXx two cover collection set was made from stills which i was proud of .
But end of the day various people have different choices on what is a good cover for them.
