Unbelievable. Here is my cover.

The front is just a scan of the retail. The roman numerals going vertical is also on the retail and on just about every other custom out there cause its cool. We used similar fonts, but most people do for roman numerals. The backs use the same specs and logo layouts...so what? The whole cover is just poster art on a black background. I honestly think my cover looks like about 10 other customs on this site.

Dagon and/or MajorTom I've got like 80 or something customs hosted on your site and you ban me over a cover that uses some of the same RETAIL elements as yours. I only made the damn thing cause someone requested that it be just like that.

You guys take this way too seriously.

I think the point is your copied the front of dags cover and if you would of asked im sure he wouldnt of mattered but the point is you didnt, and I know for sure thats that front image yes it may be poster art but he did remove alot of it and made it his own, aslo using the legal text that took him hours to do, so it just comes out that he feels like you where trying to take adavantage.

I didn't copy his front I copied the retail! I got the image from a scan of the retail and I used Eye Candy to add a brushed metal effect to the existing metal treatment. Did I get that idea from dagon's cover? I honestly don't know. I don't see what's so special about it. The only reason I did it was because I wanted the metal of the front to match the metal of the roman numerals on the spine, so I used the same settings in Eye Candy for each.

I mean come on, here is a scan of the retail that all of the DVD vendors are using. Are either of our covers really all that different? I wonder what the original artist of this picture thinks about either dagon or I using HIS work.

Of all the custom cover sites I know of, Dagon's Den is the only one I've seen that HOSTS billing blocks for download in its resources section. What the hell is the problem with using the same billing block especially when its just a slight variation of the retail's and just came from the same templates that everyone is using? Why does Dagon's Den host billing blocks then?

I guess since I'm banned there now I'll just go ahead and say it. On dagons den there is a forum post asking what is so wrong with the site and I think the question was just answered here. You are so worried about who's uploading what where and exactly where each element came from (even when they are freely available all over the place) that you've taken the fun out making customs. And then you make something as silly as a custom cover personal and call me an asshole because of a billing block. I didn't steal anything from any custom cover in any of my ~80-90 customs on the net. I even try to avoid stealing things from the retail if possible. But I am using the same poster art, logos, and information as everyone else and some ideas just make sense so they are going to be repeated. If it makes for some good covers than I think that's all that matters.

I have to leave an opinion on this. I can definately see both points of view here. From Dagon's perspective, you've copied his cover. I'm not sure I believe that you used a retail scan for the front caveman. The metal textures are absolutey identical. Could be a coincidence I suppose, I won't judge.

In defense of cml, banning him from the den is a little excessive don't you think? He's definately an asset to the cover community. Some are definately taking this stuff tooo seriously. We do this for fun don't we? If someone makes a cover that resembles someone elses, so what. Gives the people that are supporting sites like the den and r1db more choice.

Jupiter Prime removed me from his site because I uploaded a cover of his here. I didn't know that it was his, I was just sharing. That's the point -- sharing. This stuff isn't life or death.

Alien Skin Eye Candy 5, linear steel default settings gives you that identical brushed metal effect. That's all I did. Took 2 secs once that part of the image was isolated.

Then it must be one helluva fucking coincidence that you downloaded my cover from the Den a couple days ago. To everyone else, overlay cml's cover with mine and you will see what he changed from mine and then you judge.

Yes the Den does host billing blocks... STUDIO billing blocks, I never make anything from my covers available.

...And if you DID recreate that front brushed metal effect with Eye Candy 5, then why does your front and mine share the same imperfections??

Do you really want me to sit here and critique everything wrong with the cover due to your inability to properly use Photoshop to hide yor tracks? ...you didn't fix the purposeful imperfections I left behind, you didn't clean up the spine logo when you grabbed it off my front... bad use of the Erase Tool btw...

I know my work, I know the things I leave behind on certain covers... most artists are blatant with marking their covers with their name in the legal text or wherever... I leave other little things.... even on mostly black covers.

Yes I downloaded your cover so I could use the billing block. No coincidence. I really didn't see what it mattered and at the time I had no intention of uploading the cover anywhere, it was just a personal request for someone. But I figured what the hell, its a friggin BILLING BLOCK!

I really don't know what your problem is. Its the retail front on a black canvas. I will add my own billing block and redo the brushed metal with a different angle or something. I just used the default settings in eye candy and you probably did too. I see that same brushed metal effect on all kinds of covers simply because Eye Candy: linear steel is a good and popular filter. I use it all the time. The underlighting is the same because its on the original scanned image. But once the cover is updated I think you'll see that it still looks the same as yours. That's no coincidence either, its just what happens when people use the same retail cover as their inspiration. I was actually really trying for something more like this:

http://www.r1db.com/covers/showphoto...cat=all&page=2

I like making custom covers, I don't like having to defend them. I don't care what people think cause I know my work is always original. Ban me, remove my covers if you feel like it, I'll live. I'll just have to host my stuff here and elsewhere instead. Sorry you feel the way you do.
