#1 | | Guest | Printer recommendations I currently have a Lexmark Z65N, which has printed one or two nice covers out for me, without too many problems. My major issue is the cost of ink. The printer uses 2 cartridges - colour and black. The colour is the most expensive and is currently costing me about 40 Euros per cartridge!!
I have tried with refill kits, but you can only do this for so often before the quality of your prints begins to suffer.
So, my question is...Can you recommend a good and not too expensive printer (mainly for producing covers) which has cheap ink options?
Hoping for some help!

| Have a look at Canon printers, as the ink for them is very cheap. I have just ordered the Canon mp360 which scans and photocopies too for £88. The ink for these is between £1 to £15 depending on whether you by Canon branded ink or not

#4 | | Guest | I own both an Epson R300 and a Canon i9900, having just recently upgraded to the Canon.
If ink cost is your concern, definately go Canon. Epson carts (even the generics are FAR more expensive to run than the Canon) and the Canon prints are better (more color accurate, better saturation) to boot.
If you can find a Canon that uses the same carts as the i9900/i9000 in a small format, (I'm sure there are a few, just don't know the models) you can get ink carts for as low as $2-3 US a pop for them, which is nearly an entire cart set for the whole printer for the cost of a single Epson cart.

They both use the same carts, with the i9900 using 2 more. I wouldn't give up my Canon printers for anything...love the quality and the cost effectiveness.
LewnWorx, where are you getting Canon carts for that cheap? I'm currently paying ~$8/cart (retail is like $12-15 / cart). Hook me up man!

#6 | | Guest | i have the canon i470d cost me $50. ink runs from around $3 for black to $4 for color from www.123inkjets.com www.abcink.com or the like. the ink i got from www.ink4art.com sucked and monsterinkjets.com will take forever to ship but its the cheapest. i think www.inkgrabber.com uses the same ink as ink4art.com. the G and G OEM cartridges that i got from www.abcink.com are the best ive seen i think and run from $2 to $4 depending. there are coupons as well. it prints very nice i would say and am very pleased with it since changing from an HP where the ink cost $20 a cartridge

#7 | | Guest | I get my ink from Inkgrabber.com.
I've now ordered from them 4 times, and have had zero complaints. No clogged heads, none of that crap that they "epson" tell you will happen with generics.
In the last couple weeks, it has gone up somewhat, from $2 to $3.25 or something.

#8 | | Guest | My fiance is a semi-professional photographer on the side, and she would freak if I bought anything but Canon ink. We use Canon ink and Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy to print our covers, and they come out absolutely beautiful. I guess I would worry if I used generic ink or paper that they might not have the same quality.

| Although I'm not a Canon user, I just stumbled over this link: http://www.druckerchannel.de/artikel.php?ID=610&seite=3
The article compares different ink brands for Canon printers. Nevermind that it's written in German. What matters is the images. Top left is a printout with Canon ink. All those other prints literally pale in comparison.
Just thought it might be interesting to some of you. |

| I keep a reference print done with the "factory" inks. Each time I have changed out all the inks with new carts I reprint it. After literally using 40-50 generics, I cannot (nor can anyone else at the office) tell the difference which ink is which.
I know that not all inks are the same, and some of the generics really do suck. I have not had that problem with inkgrabber.com generics.
