| Question regarding Slim case covers... Hey guys, not sure if this is the right place to put this, but it seems like dupes to me. There have been many new uploads of covers that are seemingly identical to others, with the only difference being that they have a slim spine. This can't be good for bandwidth, and technically, we could see hundreds of these things pop up from people just looking for anyway to get credits...
So what is the deal with these... but not just these, but all like this. I know that J brought this up but I can't find his post... I understand certain situations (covers) where having the slim spine would be great, but where to draw the line?
edit** [originally I had posted links to examples, but I felt like I was attacking a new member who has uploaded many of the thinkpack covers and that is not my intention so I took down the examples and mention of the new user] |

| Ya thanks Atreus,
I think the meat of that post was when Jayhawk said: "the thinpacks need to be original work. I'm not going to host 10,000 thinpack duplicates of the full size covers."
Is this not slowly happening? |

#4 | | Guest | I didn't see the original post but I'm assuming that I am the new member posting those thins, two of which were removed a few days after your post. Just to clarify, I did ask if it was alright to post them and was told it was not a problem. And which is better for bandwidth, 1000 slightly altered covers that are actually of some use to some members and get downloaded or 1000 totally random Lord of the Rings, Matrix and Star Wars covers that no one has ever downloaded! Do you realize that there are two covers on this site for Revenge of the Jedi. There isn't even a movie CALLED Revenge of the Jedi! Now, five people have downloaded those two covers, so I wouldn't say they are unnecessary, but to simply discount an entire subsection of covers and specifically call out a handful of thinpaks (which were being downloaded by others) is wrong. I noticed that you have a custom for Fierce Creatures which features a region 1 symbol, a 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen logo and a listing for DTS 5.1. THAT DISC DOESN'T EVEN EXIST! The region 1 Fierce Creatures is 1.33 only with Dolby 5.1 only. You seem to be pretty good at policing and declaring unnecessary covers, yet you are guilty of providing them as well. Again, two people have downloaded that cover, so someone somewhere obviously wanted it. And credits were hardly the motive, as it would cost 1 credit to download the cover if I didn't have it, some time to alter and configure the cover and reupload for a gain of 1 credit. So I'm out the time it takes to reconfigure to simply come out even. I was doing it to be a contributor to the site rather than just using the free credits provided every month.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that you were speaking of me in your original post as I had begun uploading several thin converts just a few days before you started this thread and two of the covers were deleted shortly after. And just to give you more to think about, try reading this: Question about what I can upload
But congrats to you, because the hammer has apparently come down and those thins will no longer be a thorn in your side.
Cliff
To others: sorry if this comes off as angry, but I don't like the feeling that someone is tattling on me for something that I genuinely thought was a contribution and specifically asked about before proceeding.

| Buddy calm down a little. If you read my post you will see that the reason I didn't mention anyone, is that I did not want anybody to get they panties in a twist like it seems you did. The main reason I did not say your name was that I thought it was unfair after I read your post asking about the rules, because you did do the right thing. I even feel that it sucks that you were told go ahead, and now your are "being punished" for it. But I found your named kept reappearing when I was seeing all of these covers and when I posted my examples I thought it would come off like I was talking about you. I wasn't just talking about you because I didn't even know who you were until then; I had never seen your name before that day. So to save coming off like I was bashing you, I took the examples away before anyone could see them. Now you are all flustered because you think I meant to tattle on you?
You are right about my Fierce Creatures cover, I meant to change that but I forgot. And I am sure that you would find many mistakes with my covers, I am not very good at it, I just try to contribute any way possible because that is what this community is for. Hell your spines look great I am sure you could do way better than I could, I never said you couldn’t, ask them to remove my cover if you want, or I will change it and re-up it.
I am sorry if you were offended, but I wasn't directly speaking about you or…get this… I would have said so! SOME new people on this site have been uploading some real sh*t just for creds and I thought that it would suck to be Ctaulbee, Demonology, Rasta and J, to have to weed through these crappy ones and delete them all the time not to mention J having to pay for the bandwidth. Some of you covers are good ones to have thinkpak spines for but some really aren't...
What is with all this animosity… people don’t dig opinions anymore? |

#6 | | Guest | Look - the rules are in place and that's Jays decision - PM him if you wish to discuss this any further!
There are still alot of covers to go through and sort out, Scans in Customs, bad Covers to be deleted etc etc etc.... When this site started there was a bulk upload from a few to get it going (so there's alot of covers to filter through), and as we grow we're trying to maintain control of the quality / dupes and sections! We can't can't do it all and please everyone - if thinpacks are your passion (like some other people as well) why not start up a thinpack Cover site? Ultimately Jay owns and controls this site.. so that's it (his site / his rules) - if you don't like it, talk to him! or just accept the rules here - it is a great site!

#7 | | Guest | Michael,
Apologies if I came off harsh. It’s certainly not my intention to get off to a bad start around here. Again, I apologize for my tone. I’ll PM you to talk about this further.
RASTA67,
Apologies to you as well. I completely understand that it’s Jay’s House, Jay’s Rules. As much as I might disagree with it, it’s not up to me. Hopefully someday in the future it might change, but for now it’s how it goes.
