| New Cover Credit Vote I'm putting this up for a vote. This was discussed in an ealier thread in suggestions. If this were to happen, the freebies per month would go away--i think it's only fair seeing the new system in the forums and a way to earn a shared interest in the cover you've uploaded. Here's how it lays out:
covers credited as +2 upload/.08 per download
covers credited as +0 upload/.3 per download
So, basically, you'd see more results in the long run- but if it's something shitty, you'd see no results.
10 downloads would net you 3 credits... so, take some of the stuff PP/bunny/etc has done @50+ downloads (or any other cover) - he'd get 15 credits for that... (if the system were already in place). |

| i voted for the 0 upload and .3 download.
i did so for a couple reasons
1) it will discourage (albeit, just a little bit) someone from upping someone else's work to get those 2 upload credits
2) it will encourage people to make covers worthy of a download, simply because other than their own satisfaction with their work, hopefully they will be able to put extra effort into a cover as without downloads, they are sunk (or donation/posting i guess)
3) it will encourage people to clean up their scans!
That having been said...I hope that this can be done with 2 new guidelines, as it were, which are,
1) If a cover creator is not the one earning credits for the downloads, it can be switched over. Please tell me if I am wrong here, but wouldn't it just be a change in the user table database to do that? Using Bunny, or Ric Easton as an example....if someone upped their cover, and it was downloaded 10 times....since at this point, we are no longer rewarding someone for just uploading, but rather the actual work put into a cover, it would be respectful to actually give them the credit they deserve.
2) If a cover sucks ass...either bad scan or shitty custom, you still lose 2-4 credits for the bad upload.

| Just a reminder, that with the new rewards - the freebies per day will go away... I stated that in the other thread as well.
To touch on a couple things PP brought up-
1. it shouldn't be hard to switch the user over to someone IF they are on the site--if they aren't a member, we can't switch it to them and the person that uploaded it would reap the rewards.
I'll add this as well, if the cover is here already, it has your name on it, but you don't "own it" - can't click on edit cover, you wouldn't be receiving credit going forward... make sure you let a mod know.
2. if a cover is deleted, it will still lose credits- but until we incorporated something in the ratings... that would be hard to accomplish if it's accepted and just sitting here. |

| Just to be clear on your post. Does the cover maker retro-actively get points for downloads? That is, will his pre-new credit system covers get all the credits earned from previous downloads? I hope this makes sense.

| After all of that, I hit "Leave it Alone." If people are going to be allowed to upload others' work, then I think it's a bad idea and I'm surprised that based on my complaints in the past I did not consider that sooner. With the old system someone could upload a barely passable cover and get 2 credits, but with the new one someone could go to Jupiter's or ********* or the Den or wherever else, pick up a cover, and get 10, 20, 30, or even more credits.
From the way Jay talked in the other thread, it seems like he wouldn't mind adding a few credits on top of someone well-known's account if he needs them, so it's not like this is a matter of most artists NEEDING credits but just of rewarding a job well-done. With that said, though, there's still the possibility of me going over to *********, downloading someone who doesn't know about this site's covers, and adding them here. If they're for new movies, I'm sure I'd get well over 2 credits per cover, so it would in fact reward people even more for putting other people's work up here AND would give them an incentive to not tell the artist himself to come here...
I don't know, it just seems like a lot of work to go through to achieve what might be a negative feeling amongst people. Maybe something more simple like a little end of the month "award" thread where you hand out something like "Most Creative" "Most Professional" "Best Newcomer" for the uploads that month (and a few credits), heck maybe even "Most Downloaded"... that way you'd be celebrating people and you'd be able to know (hopefully) that the cover's true creator is being (knowingly!) rewarded...?
I really hate to go against this when its aim is meant to be so good, but I don't like the idea of someone being rewarded even more if they're uploading someone else's work. |

| My sentiments. I don't think the credit system will work, if it is rewarding downloads for covers of movies that aren't out on DVD. Take any blockbuster that is at the cinema, and the first cover that gets uploaded for that movie, will be downloaded at least 50 times. Even if it's shite.
I think the new reward system would work, if only dvd titles were allowed.
Another idea could be to reward the people in the 'Top Covers' list. Something like an extra credit a month for each cover they have there? That could encourage people to make covers good enough to get posted in that section!
The issue in my eyes is, you could make the best cover that has ever been created, and everyone could love that cover, but unless it is a cover for a title they own, they aren't going to download it. The rewards for cover downloads are going to go to the most popular titles. |

| I don't think you got the full gist of it... If you have an account on this site (your here so you do) then say, joe-schmoe uploads one of jupiters covers. The mods see that in the uploads area, and change the owner to the appropriate artist before moving it. They have no opportunity to gain credit, only the original creator. That's assuming we know who's it is, but - even if we don't it only takes one person raising a flag in the comments for us to look at it and change it.
In the old system, they would have had 2 credits when it was transfered to the appropriate section, and the original creator would have been ass'd out. This system, at least awards the creator the opportunity to make credit over time- time is on the creator's side in this case.
Covers that are already on the site would be part of hte rewards system, but past downloads wouldn't be figured in, as it would be a "live" system, where it's downloaded- it's credited.
The creator could not download it to increase his/her totals, and it will only calculate one download per person.
I'm thinking it would work much better than the current system, and I think those who are thinking they are going to get screwed by someone uploading some of their work- need to look at it again. There's always a chance that somone will upload your cover, but they won't get credit anymore- you would...
hope that makes sense-=-- you are making more over time... the more you have here, the more potential to earn. I don't know, seems to make sense to me?
I think most people are going to tell someone their covers are here, they are here, or they know about it and don't care---at this point.....
