I actually prefer to read the book after I've seen the movie whenever possible. 99% of the time, the book is always better, and reading the book first makes me feel like the movie sucks. If I go to see a movie and it's good, I'll want to read the book because there are always scenes that are left out of the movie for one reason or another, and that usually builds on the story and improves it if possible. However, if I watch a movie and it sucks, I'll still try and read the book, just to see if someone on the movie end fucked it up, or if the book just sucked from the start.

i thought about reading eragon before it came out in theatres. im very glad i didn't. we saw it opening weekend and i started the book shortly thereafter. there is much more in the book that could/should have been in the movie and i think reading the book first would have spoiled the fun. the movie was good... for what it was. but the book just blows it away.
