| Have you ever... So I wanted to ask a few questions for discussion (because I'm bored), but didn't want to start up a whole bunch of new threads. So I made a single thread with multiple questions. Smart, ain't I?
1a) Have you ever bought a film and thought the cover was okay 'till you saw someone else's totally kick ass custom artwork, so you just had to print it and use it? But then, a few days/weeks/months later, you see that someone else has created an even more ass kicking cover, so you have to dl that one instead and replace the first one you printed? Have you ever replaced a custom with another custom?
1b) Have you ever replaced one of your own custom covers with someone else's because they just totally blew your's away?
2) Have you ever created artwork for the inside of a DVD case? I use a lot of clear thinpak cases for my collection, and a lot of times I'll print a double sided cover so that the inside looks all pretty too. Usually I'll just create some kind of "insert" artwork, maybe with a chapter list or some such for the inside of the front, and then use alternate artwork or an alternate poster or whatever for what goes under the disc. IMO the inside of the case (if you're using clear cases, of course) gets looked at just as much as the rest.
3) Have you ever started working on a cover, with what you think is a brilliant, original idea, get about 50% (or more) finished and then find out that someone else had the exact same (or 98% similar) idea to yours, and there cover looks 10x nicer?
4) Have you ever worked on like, a dozen covers at the same time, never finishing any of them... and then start working on a new one every day? And never go back to any of the old ideas once you get a new idea in your head? I call this my "Cover ADD" syndrome. I've got so many WIP .psd files on my hard drive, I'm seriously thinking in investing in a newer, bigger drive. I've already got a 200GB, and it's 99% full. Although, it's not all WIP .psd files |

| 1) Yes
1b) No. The few customs I do, generally aren't for new releases or extremely popular movies. Don't see too many duplicates. But if the occasion came up, I wouldn't not replace it just because it was my work. If another one is way better, and I like it a lot more, I'd replace it.
2) Nope.
3) Sort of. I've started working on covers that I think are half-assed, and someone has done a much better version. That project was abandoned. But if I thought mine was really good, I sould have kept working on it.
4) Not quite that bad, but yes. There's a fair amount of covers I've started, and either couldn't find material for (so far), or couldn't get down what I wanted on to the screen. I'm guessing this is more of a rookie thing more than anything, though. |

| I have to answer no on all of them. I've replaced maybe a couple of covers, but that's only when my boys rips one apart, and I don't have the cover saved.
I have bought movies based upon someone's cover. Swarez's The Cell is a good example. I thought the movie sucked bad. However, after seeing his cover, I promptly bought the movie. It is now sitting on my shelf collecting dust, because I still haven't watched the movie. I will sooner or later, but not now. I guess I could have just printed the cover and put in an empty case, but I didn't want to see to OBSESSIVE!

| It happened to me like this:
I downloaded and printed Ric Easton's thinpak B5 covers. Then I found Jupiter's adaptation and I liked the spine shot better, so I downloaded and printed those. Now after using Jup's covers for several months, Ric Easton's covers have been updated and I like that spine shot even better. So I downloaded and began printing those, when I realized that I liked the front b5 logos on Jup's set better than the fron b5 logos on the new set that I was in the middle of printing. I still liked the new spine shot better, so now I didn't know what to do. I briefly toyed with slapping Jup's logo onto Ric's updated covers, but the logos didn't line up perfectly, and I didn't want to try to remove the logos from Ric's covers. In the end, since I had printed three of the seven covers by the time I made this realization, I decided to stick to Ric's updated covers as they are, since the spine will be seen much more often than the fronts. And that way the three covers that I had already printed would not be a waste. I may one day try to create my own hybrid using the elements that I prefer from both sets, but I won't actually print and use them until/unless the current ones get damaged somehow.
