the amityville was pretty good and i have to agree with dawn of the dead the the king of remake is the thing by far

I'd have to go with King Kong too unless LOTR counts (the first two books were filmed in the '70s in animated form). But then, there are so many worthy remakes these days, The Magnificent Seven (remake of Kurosawa's Seven Samurai), Titanic has also been filmed before the King of the World took it on, the Fly and many more too numerous to mention.
