Best Remake Ever????
Ok..the title is self-explanatory. Some friends and I were discussing the issue of remakes, and well, we all had different remakes that we thought sucked and were just great. So basically, what movie do you all consider the best remake ever....and was it better than the original. remember sequels don't count.
Mine is a bit off from what a traditional remake is, but it's Batman (1989). By far this exceeds the Adam West movie and is, at least to me, the best remake/re-envisioning of the concept ever.
so...what's yours?

I really like The Magnificent Seven, although I have yet to see Seven Samurai, so I can't comment on whether the remake is better than the original.
Not only is Magnificent Seven a great movie, it contains my all-time favorite movie line, spoken by James Coburn:
"Nobody hands me my own gun and says, 'run.' Nobody."

hmmmm....*goes off into deep thought*
*...ladykillers...nope bit off more than they could chew....*
ok the fantastic 4 was a remake that supassed the original, but the original was a tv movie in which they were all wearing foam...so that doesn't count...
*back in deep thought...ocean's 11...nope...godzilla...sucked....planet of the apes...shudders....aha...got it*
Scarface in mho has to be one of the the best remakes out there

you can't be serious. it was definately more visually stunning, but it was not more entertaining than the original.

ah...scarface...ya know so many people that i know didn't even know it was a remake as the pacino scarface has eclipsed the 30s version (1934 i think). that's a good one. oceans 11 is also a good one. godzilla and planet of the apes suck ass.

Sorry I forgot to mention that Batman was a excellent remake all thanks to getting rid of the campness of the TV series/movie and bringing back the darkness of the comics ... that and having Tim Burton direct.
